Audio/Video Clips Out of Sync

When your presenter wants to incorporate Audio/Video clips in a Zoom Meeting, there are known issues when screen sharing. Here are the questions to which you must have answers as soon as possible once you find out there will be a presentation:

  • What kind of presentation (PPP, Keynote, Word, etc.)?
  • Are the clips
    1. On the presenter’s device itself (Best Practice)
    2. Accessed from the web
    3. Embedded in the presentation (Known to cause sync problems)
      1. To be accessed from a website
      2. To be accessed through the web to a server

Here are the Best Practices for sharing video clips in Zoom s of 02/14/2022:

  • Presenters sharing Audio and/or Video clips should have all clips
    • downloaded to the device from which they will be presenting.
    • each clip opened in it’s own QT player or tab if located on the web (YouTube / Amazon)
  • The presentation must be shared in “Presenter View”
    • The presenter will be “Ending Show” to get to a QuickTime clip / internet tab
    • The presenter will be Stopping & minimizing each QT / tab then
      • reopening his/her PPP in Presenter view
      • grabbing the cursor.
    • Re-adjusting the partial screen window to fit the clip / slide

When in zoom attempting to show any kind of video, get the videos downloaded to the computer and always use QuickTime or similar to play. Otherwise the audio is out of sync with the video. ALSO, plug an audio cable into the presenter’s laptop since the sound comes from the laptop through the venue’s speakers yet the Zoom mic is muted.

Make sure to set optimize sound and optimize video when going to share screen.

Be sure to set the shared screen in presenter view and the advanced for partial screen. Otherwise the presenter cannot get to the controls to find QuickTime in order to play the clips.resentatkon is to be

  • If they are to be accessed via an embedded link (to YouTube or other) anticipate some degradation of sync between audio and video on a clip.
      • NOTE: Even though PPP Online is an option for developing one’s presentation, the copy to be presented at the event should be downloaded to the presenter’s device to prevent further degradation of sync.
      • NOTE: Even though PPP for Mac is available, we have seen even greater degradation of sync when utilizing it on a Mac.
    • If they are to be accessed via an external server, there will be such degradation of sync as to render the clips useless.
      • Have the presenter download such clips to their device.
      • If not possible, the presenter is to
        • download the clips to a flash drive to be provided to you weeks in advance of the event
        • arrange with Colin to upload the clips to the Rack Computer to which he will need provide access on the day of the event.

02-12-2022, Zoom Support Tech proposed the below instructions to clear both the presenter’s device as well as the OVA Rack (Any OVA Rack work to be executed only by Colin Hannigan). At the time of this posting, these steps had not yet been attempted. If they work to improve sync, they will remain. If not, it will be noted for future reference.

1. Open Zoom client and Quit from the Zoom menu

2. Open Terminal

3. Type:

cd “Library/Application Support/zoom.us”

4. Type: rm -rf data and hit enter:

5. Reinstall Zoom client: zoom.us/downloads

This should clear out any dirty data on the current profile.

The next troubleshooting step I have is:

1. Open Terminal

2. copy and paste the following command:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder; sleep 2

3. Restart Mac 4.

Try again
